Speaking of muggen train, i recommend simply jumping directly into s2, since it has the whole movie cut into episodes, with one episode being anime original (first one) and overall some small additional scenes and some visual correction in comparaison to the movie!

I’ve watched 8 Mile a dozen of times not because it is my favorite. Nor how influential Eminem’s story is very relatable to our everyday struggles. But this movie taught me to how find my own individuality like how he (or his fictional character Jimmy) did.

Your reactions to the "Maze Runner" trilogy were quite interesting. I appreciate the thought you put into them. Also, I'm very happy you liked the series. It is my favourite post-apocalyptic dystopian trilogy by far. It's gratifying to me that a person as serious as yourself likes and appreciates it as well. We must remember that Thomas is a tragic hero. Tragic heroes suffer, and so Thomas suffers. However, Thomas' suffering leads him to an epiphany at the end of this, the third film. By this time, Thomas has gained the strength to accept his destiny which he will meet even if it means his death. Tragic heroes almost always die. This is without doubt what the epilogue of the third film means. Thomas is going back to the WCKD world, and he is going to offer himself up as a cure even if it means his life. Even though WCKD's HQ was destroyed along with the city, there were more than one WCKD lab and installation referenced in the films. It's a great pity there wasn't a fourth film made where we would see our hero, Thomas, noble to the end, achieve his ultimate destiny and be reunited with Newt in the Elysian Fields. That would have made a very good trio into a great quartet. As a side note, I believe that Thomas had no great romantic attachment to Theresa. They were good friends who had a shared backstory only. Something similar can be said for Brenda. Thomas' great love in the trilogy, although it was unconsummated, was Newt. And this love was reciprocated. That poignant letter by Newt was an expression of his great love for Thomas. These are very good and quite entertaining films which touch upon deep waters. They were well-acted and well-crafted. The production crew and the actors together created a truly excellent trilogy. I hope they are proud of their efforts because they should be. And I hope "Signed K" will someday return to the world of "reactors."

An interesting reaction. I don't agree with everything, but "quot homines tot sententiae: suus cuique mos." I do have a few nits to pick, however. These probably arise because you've either been busy providing commentary and so understandably missed something in the film/films or you're not remembering something from the first film. 1) It's a world-wide catastrophe. In the first film, it was said the Earth was scorched, which implies the entire Earth. It was also stated that billions have died as a result. The population of the US is 331 million officially although in actuality it's more, but definitely not billions. This is a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but WCKD is undoubtedly an Anglosphere organisation. Everyone is a native English-speaker although clearly not everyone is an American. 2) In the second film, at Jorge's establishment, Theresa eyes a hand-held radio used by the man, now dead, who was in contact with Jansen. It was clearly implied that she was going to take it. She clearly betrayed Thomas at that point. In fact, one wonders if she didn't betray Thomas to WCKD originally. In our hero's adventure-journey, Theresa clearly represents the monomyth's temptress who tries to derail him. "Temptress" doesn't necessarily imply carnality, either. Theresa only tempts Thomas using arguments both logical and emotional. Kaya Scodelario does a good job of making her character seem suspect from the get-go. Unlike Thomas, her arrival in the first film completely breaks the Glade's paradigm. it's untimely, she's female, and she heralds the end of the Glade's supply lifeline. Totally inauspicious. There is a mistrust-invoking aura about her always. Or is that just the archetype working? Were she and Thomas romantically involved before arriving at the Glade? In spite of the curious drug-induced scene in the second film, it seems doubtful. They just seem like friends who share a common backstory. In the second film, she tells Thomas "Everything was fine until you ...." This implies she never approved of what he'd done, and that she always believed in WCKD's mission. It's clear Theresa wasn't part of Thomas' betrayal of WCKD because only Thomas is taken by WCKD security in his flashback at the club. He tells her "Don't believe what they say about me." Thomas obviously acted alone. Theresa's later story about her mother was an emotional appeal to Thomas where previously logic had failed. Thomas had been a valued member of WCKD. They actually wanted him back as a redeemed true-believer. That was the purpose behind Jansen's questioning in the interrogation room. If Thomas had answered positively about WCKD, he would have had his memories restored, too. Even with their memories wiped, their personalities would be unchanged. If they had a romance before the Glade, you'd think you might see at least some indication of it rekindling in the Glade and afterwards, but you don't. In fact, the longer Theresa is in contact with Thomas, the further she seems to move away from him. This begs the question of why Theresa was sent to the Glade. We'll ever know although we can have our suspicions. Early on, Thomas himself even asks her if she's sure she doesn't remember more of her past life. Does he have some subconscious doubt about her? There are interesting parallels between Theresa and Thomas. Both Theresa and Thomas are betrayers. Which one is evil depends on your answer to the films' theme: Does the end justify means? They both want a cure for the Flare. However, Theresa/WCKD are ruthless in pursuit of a cure, willing to sacrifice however many young people it takes. Thomas, on the other hand, is completely altruistic. He's only willing to sacrifice himself to save humanity. 3) At this time in the films, WCKD actually doesn't know precisely what the curative "enzyme" is, they're looking for it. Hence, the Trials. The Flare and the immunes' brain enzyme are the trilogy's MacGuffin. A MacGuffin is a thing that is necessary to the plot and the motivation of the characters, but insignificant, unimportant, or irrelevant in itself. Accordingly, one shouldn't obsess over it. We accept it for what it is. In the film "Kiss Me Deadly," it's the mysterious box. In "The Shining," it's "the shining," a supernatural ability or force. In the "Maltese Falcon," it's the unseen Falcon. Even so, in the real world, we do use microorganisms' synthetizing ability to produce complex molecules that are difficult/impractical to achieve by traditional chemical synthesis. So, the films' MacGuffin isn't that outlandish in the abstract. One thing about the tragic hero motif is that those nearest and dearest to the hero often wind up either in some sort of deadly peril or just plain dead. Most often, it's dead. So, as you're watching the films you might ask yourself: Who's closest to Thomas? Initially, the obvious choices are Theresa, Chuck, Newt, Minho, and maybe Alby. There's a fair amount of interaction between Thomas and Alby in the first film. In fact, as the films progress, Ava Paige falls into this category. In the second film, we see she's been close to Thomas since he was a small boy, and she figures in his dream-visions prominently. Almost a foster mother, maybe. That touching scene between Chuck and Thomas involving the carved figure was Chuck's death warrant, of course. Just about everyone sees that. You knew he was going to die by the end of the first film. That didn't make it any less poignant. Also, Alby was going to die because clearly Thomas, the hero, will be leader going forward, and Alby would be redundant. If Ava Paige were to die, it obviously wouldn't be until the final film because she personified WCKD. By the end of the second film, we know Theresa will very likely die in the final film. Her betrayal cut so deep that it is hard to imagine she could redeem herself sufficiently subsequently. The only way she could do it would be to save some important character(s) from certain death. Brenda seems more like a friend to Thomas. She may even love him, but I don't think he feels the same way about her. That said, he would risk his life for her, but Thomas does that for all his friends. It seems less likely Brenda will die in the final film. Ditto Jorge. We also had Minho in peril in at the end of the second film. So, in the final film, either Minho, Newt or possibly both will die. One thing is for sure, though: The one who is nearest and dearest to Thomas will certainly die. If there was any romance involving Thomas in the films, that's where it's found. You're correct, Winston was a minor character, but we did know his name from the first film. He went with Thomas et al. to recover the Griever. He also told Gally it didn't feel right to sacrifice Thomas and Theresa to the Grievers. Etc. "Maze Runner" and "Hunger Games" are both based on the Greek myth "Theseus and the Minotaur." So, if there are similarities, it derives from the source material.

The "Maze Runner" trilogy are my absolute favourite post-apocalyptic dystopian films. I'm glad you liked this first entry in the saga. I also appreciated your analysis of the film. Yes, the trilogy does conform, more or less, to a three-act play. I must take exception, however, to your early comment about building a structure to surmount the barrier walls. This is equivalent to the suggestion that the Gladers build a ladder. Well, to me, the interior walls look to be at least 100 feet tall. So, the Gladers should make a 100+ foot ladder? These boys live in huts made out of sticks, twine and grass. They could not build a 100+ foot ladder or 10+ storey structure that would be sturdy and stable enough. It's completely unfeasible. A better idea might be to cut hand and footholds in the wall, but I don't think they could do that, either. They had no saws, chisels or much of anything along the line of tools except for the odd machete or knife. If you know your classics, "The Maze Runner" is a relatively close retelling of Theseus and the Minotaur, of course. I'm not alone in making this connection, but it's a surprisingly select club. That's rather sad. It's an oft told story as reflected in films as diverse as "The Shining" and "The Hunger Games." I myself am not a fan of "The Hunger Games" retelling, but I do love "The Shining." Naturally, Thomas is Theseus, the hero. The Glade and the Gladers are Athens and Athenian youth, respectively. The Grievers are the Minotaur, the monster that feeds on the Athenian youth who have been offered as sacrificial victims. The Minotaur is half man, half bull. The Grievers are half organic, half machine. The WCKD mechanism that's found in the crushed Griever is Ariadne's thread, the key out of the maze. WCKD is King Minos. The maze motif is repeated in the "Scorch Trials" and "Death Cure" as well. The Glade's Athens is, however, more like "The Lord of the Flies" than classical Greece. Themes in that well-known classic include the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions, and between morality and immorality. Things which we do see play out in Thomas and the Gladers. Thomas is the archetypal tragic hero. Tragic heroes are characters of elevated stature, both in birth and morality. Like most heroes, he has above-average intelligence, which means he has situational awareness; he's determined, which means he is firmly set in opinion or purpose; and he has a loyal close friend who guides, advises and helps him as he faces his trials. In the films, Newt clearly fits the role as Thomas' helper, his Ariadne. The Theseus myth also emphasizes the power of love. Ariadne helps because she has fallen in love with Theseus. Newt has also fallen in love with Thomas. As a tragic hero, Thomas is subject to a collective fate, the will of the gods, if you will, which had precipitated the solar flares that scorched the Earth and indirectly brought about the Flare virus. A common attribute of the tragic hero is that he once held a lofty position from which he has now been cast down. Thomas' hamartia has visited his own individual fate upon himself which prompts his present adventure-journey. His moral choices while part of WCKD led him to immoral behavior, the torture and deaths of his friends. In this way, Thomas assumed the role of a god over the Gladers. That's hubris. Humans, even if they're heroes, have to be taught they are not a god. Tragic heroes suffer, and so Thomas suffers throughout all three films. It seems incredible but heroic stories often follow the same basic pattern. In his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," Joseph Campbell, distilled the world's myths into a common structure which he called the monomyth or hero's journey. It's very concisely summarized as follows: A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man. That's the "Maze Runner" film trilogy in a nutshell. The whole trilogy is told more or less from Thomas' perspective. We know what he knows; as he learns, we learn. In the first film, we learn in short order there's a disorienting memory wipe, there's a seemingly unsolvable maze wherein monsters live, there's a community called the Glade that holds moots and metes out punishment on rule breakers, and it's all an experiment with the Gladers as subjects being conducted by an unseen, seemingly malevolent, entity. The Gladers don't like to talk about the maze. This may be out of fear and ignorance. That's frustrating for Thomas - and us. Only the runners know the secrets of this mysterious and sinister maze-realm and that incompletely. In fact, the runners function as a sacred priesthood. Only when Thomas is elected runner does Minho tell the new initiate all in the map hut, the Glade's holy of holies. We also learn the power dynamics of the Glade, and we learn pretty early on Thomas is a rule breaker which is especially interesting in the context of the second film. The action of the first film occurs over less than a week. It's quite compressed for something that has so much going on. However, the first film tells us what we need to know about the characters and the plot up to that point in the timeline. As the trilogy progresses, we learn more of course. In the first film, Thomas' dream-visions hint at his backstory and make his character ambiguous. Is Gally right about him? In the first film the interplay between Thomas and Gally is quite good. Gally isn't some cardboard caricature antagonist, he's very solid and real. As others have remarked, what Gally says makes complete sense. He and Thomas are in almost perfect antipodal balance with one another. I like that a lot. By the way, Will Poulter does a fantastic American accent. Absolutely incredible. He sounds more American than many Americans. One wonders if after Thomas stung himself, he doesn't remember more than he lets on. He acts like he does. He seems to know why he was put into the Glade. Earlier, he told Newt and the others he didn't recognize Theresa, but we know he did. Very, very uncharacteristic of Thomas. Why does he do that? Does he have suspicions about Theresa and not want to give voice to them? I also did note all the pointy objects in the first film: spears, poles, knives, and stingers. All vaguely phallic - not that I'm big into Freud. More often than not, a cigar is just that. Another thing about the tragic hero motif is that those nearest and dearest to the hero often wind up either in some sort of deadly peril or just plain dead. Most often, it's dead. So, as you're watching the films you might ask yourself: Who's closest to Thomas? The Flare virus is the "Maze Runner" saga's MacGuffin. Therefore, you really shouldn't try to make too much out of it. This is a SciFi story after all. According to the films, by stressing the brains of the immune an enzyme is produced that evidently crosses the brain-blood barrier into the blood. Once isolated this enzyme can be used either to temporarily arrest or potentially to cure the Flare. The "Maze Runner" trials stress the brains of the subjects in order to hopefully create the requisite neural pathways that produce a 100% curative enzyme so humanity can be saved, even if it means killing immunes in the process. When such an individual or individuals are identified, they would be harvested by WCKD. The WCKD agenda begs the question of does the end justify the means, a principle often associated with totalitarianism, which is the central theme of the "Maze Runner." The principle is part and parcel of consequentialism, a teleological theory that says whether an action is morally good or bad depends on its outcomes. The more good outcomes outnumber the bad, the better/more moral the action. Under this rubric if WCKD finds a cure, then WCKD is very good, indeed. To sum up, these are very good and quite entertaining films which touch upon deep waters. Well-acted and well-crafted, too. The production crew and the actors together created an excellent trilogy.

One correction- Taxi Driver was written NOT by Martin Scorsese, rather by Paul Schrader, future director of several of his own films including Hardcore with George C.Scott and Mishima ALife In Three Acts.I really hate to be ungenerous but here are some of the coldest, ice-chilled takes I've ever heard from any review of the masterful film Taxi Driver. So much for film school degrees.

Keep in mind that in the first chapter of shingeki no kiojin Wit Studio changed Eren's dream, for this reason at the beginning of this special chapter Mappa corrected that mistake. Mappa made this correction due to the importance of Eren and Mikasa's dream for the end of the story. In the first chapter of the manga and at the beginning of this chapter it is understood that the dream that Eren mentions having had is about Mikasa and him, what was shown in the first chapter before Eren wakes up (titans, toys and corpses) is a change made by Wit Studio and has nothing to do with Eren and Mikasa's dream shown in the first chapter of the manga.

Joker is not a good film, let alone a masterpiece, I'm sorry to say. Terribly sorry, even! 😬 I wanted to like it but was profoundly disappointed. I have a meticulously crafted set of reasons why I think Joker is awful (including two I haven't seen anyone else mention). I can also drop links to excellent videos that speak of how Joker fails, some of the points therein mingling with my own. That is, if you or anyone else here is interested. 😊

What a savage playthrough! At least, I see a rare ending :D About the decision and characters, what I often see is, people have a hard time with the choice, but you have to think what the character at that point would mean. At least for me, it always make more sense. I "direct" the character on their principle. I'm not the character, nor are they an extension of me in this world.

I always felt this movie is how could the Joker exist in the real world. Not a super villain but how could he really exist. I thought this adaption and Joaquin's performance was beyond, terrifyingly amazing. This may be the best twisted, off beat character in the cinema since Psycho.

Nothing against Ledger (RIP), but i never quite got what people saw so special about him as joker? He was fantastic ... for Heath Ledger. Nobody thought he had that kind of range - which is why so many protested and predicted its failure when he was announced for the role. There was nothing scary about ledger's character, imo. Phoenix genuinely frightened me. As an 80's kid, Nicholson was always Joker in my mind, even after Ledger, and Leto can get f***ed. But Phoenix took them all to school.

To be honest Heath Ledgers performance was pretty amazing. That said what made his performance seem so epic and legendary was that he entered scenes in the movie to set up his performances. A scene would be in progress then he enters and takes over the scene which made his performance seem better then jt would be had he just appeared consistently and not just entering with a bang. Also his screen time allowed the audience to wait and anticipate his arrival into the movie at different times. So that helps the character again feel more epic than he would have been. Great performance though but Wacking Fenix was on screen start to finish which is more amazing and actually more difficult than what Heath had to do.

on Jan. 6 last year, four people in the crowd died. Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer as rioters tried to breach the House chamber. Kevin D. Greeson died of a heart attack, collapsing on the sidewalk west of the Capitol on Jan. 6. Rosanne Boyland appeared to have been crushed in a stampede of fellow rioters as they surged against the police. Benjamin Philips, the founder of a pro-Trump website called Trumparoo, died of a stroke. Mr. Greeson and Mr. Philips died of natural causes, the Washington medical examiner said in April. He added that Ms. Boyland’s death was caused by an accidental overdose.
